Amanda Bossard was just out high school when she began her studies in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she started working aboard the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner that was converted into an ice-fish tender was owned by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999. The two have joined to defend their businesses. They are both in favor of conservative and profitable managing of the renewable resources for seafood. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor which was founded by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007, by a now-mother of two young children: Bella age 3 and Andre aged 1. In 2007, Bossard mother to two kids Bella age 3 and Andre 1. She returned to Philadelphia from her native Canada, launched Otolith as a wholesale direct market seafood distributor. Bossard along with her two children Andre 10, and Isabella 12 return every year to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to catch wild salmon in summer. Hooks and lines are used to capture their salmon and then join Aritan to market their products to local processors for a period of two months. They then continue to increase their direct seafood market through Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
